An artistic dance and drama piece about social isolation?
The Butterfly Lovers it ain't, despite featuring two attractive pairs of dancers in revealing costumes.
Rather, the new dance and drama piece, the Butterfly Effect, by DanceArt Hong Kong, refers to a popular myth from chaos theory that the flip of a butterfly wing from one side of the Earth can cause a hurricane at the other side.
Considering how many butterflies there are, shouldn't we have been wiped out by now?
Here's the English synopsis (I have not changed a word): 'The rooms are invaded/ The rules are trespassed/ The feelings are harassed/ You will choose to/ Be a cause of hurt/ warmth to others? Be a dispute maker/ solver? Live in peace/ in aggression? Be a giver/ a taker? Accept/ reject? A story about action that precedes before choices with two totally different endings.'
We are not sure what the piece is about, but it's intriguing that the entire stage seems to have been converted into a public toilet, with each dancer assigned his or her own water closet. Maybe it's an artistic piece about social isolation because they don't seem to be interacting.
Perhaps disgraced US Senator Larry Craig, who was caught in a police sex sting operation in an airport toilet, could serve as an artistic consultant to liven up the ensemble set. He seemed to know a universal code that would initiate some sort of partying in public toilets everywhere.
