The mobile phone has gone through so many changes in the past five years that it's no surprise someone has decided to go 'classic' and appeal to the nostalgic. Nokia's new 6000 series bears the title 'classic' - probably because the company wants it to be associated with its ultra popular Nokia 6000 series of a few years back. Like its predecessors, the new 6120 Classic is a candy bar phone with a basic button layout and no fancy ornaments, reminiscent of a time when the most impressive feature on a mobile phone was a big colour display. But the 6120's features belie its simple appearance. Inside the seemingly old-school design is a cutting edge handset with 3.5G HSDPA wireless data access, quad-band GSM, two digital cameras (one for photos and one for conducting video calls), music and media player, FM radio, Web browser, memory expansion slot and most of the features that you can think of. The 2-inch, 16 million-colour display is clear and crisp. Photos from the 2megapixel digital camera are bright and sharp. The 6120 is also equipped with a 369 MHz processor, which is more powerful than some PDA phones, and has software for supporting MSOffice applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and pdf, which make the 6120 a powerful work tool. Despite its plain and 'classic' exterior, the 6120 packs a punch in both connectivity and productivity. And the best thing about the 6120 is that it's easy on your wallet at a mere HK$2,230. Pros: high speed internet access, powerful processor, big, clear screen, good quality digital camera Cons: no keyboard to take full advantage of MSOffice application support, no wireless LAN, no infrared Contact Gadget Geezer at syp_gadgets@hotmail.com
