Blades of Glory
Starring: Will Ferrell, Jon Heder, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett
Directors: Will Speck, Josh Gordon
The film: We pretty much know the score by now. If it's a Will Ferrell vehicle, the film will involve the resurrection of a man laid low by the fates.
The humour stems from Ferrell playing it straight - in his mind steadfastly believing at all times in his own studliness, when the body we see in front of us tells a different story entirely. There's never too much direction going on, either, other than just pointing the cameras in his general vicinity and letting him play up.
Typecast? Well, it's better the devil you know in the movie world as Jim Carrey continues to learn the hard way while dabbling in the dramatic arts.
Painting Ferrell as an uber-jock worked in Talladega Nights, to a degree, and so the filmmakers have tweaked things a touch - swapping Nascar racing for figure skating, basically - and mostly stuck with the tried and true.
