The time to scrap village house law is long overdue

The small-house policy has become a practice which spits in the face of the law.

When the law was introduced, it was designed to appease villagers on the outskirts of Hong Kong.

It was a well-meaning and laudable move, giving families homes where they could live.

Now, it is buying an 'indigenous son' (or grandson - but not a daughter) a nice residence in the suburbs of Glasgow, Vancouver or Melbourne. The 'home sweet home' is, in most cases, elsewhere.

Such an 'indigenous' male may never have seen his 'rightful abode' in Hong Kong.

He probably enjoys citizenship in another country and is blessed with a substantial cheque for his signature.
