Meanwhile, in the other SAR ... It all started with Reggie Fox in his bedroom playing with turntables his dad bought for him when he was a teenager. Teaching himself to DJ took several years but the 26-year-old mastered the technique and started looking for gigs. His first gig was when he was just 17 years old in a bar in his hometown in France. The French recording artist moved to Macau 10 months ago and has been playing gigs here and in Hong Kong ever since. Before moving to Asia, he was producing drum and bass records for other DJs. 'In my family everybody plays music, they have been doing so for many generations. It's a tradition and I am following it,' says Reggie. Reggie started out playing the trumpet and later became interested in dance music. 'The type of music I play is the support for parties, people go to discos and they love to dance to it,' he said. Since moving to Macau, Reggie has also started DJ lessons for those interested in learning how to master the decks. He offers an introductory course that includes five lessons covering everything from the history of DJing to learning about the equipment and basic beat matching. Reggie says after completing the first course people can choose to buy their own equipment and practise by themselves or continue with more advanced lessons. 'I taught myself without lessons but I think it takes much longer,' he says. People can become proficient in about three months, assuming they have several practise sessions each week. Reggie says it's important that anyone interested in learning to DJ knows that it takes time as it is not an easy skill to learn.
