Architectural firm's executives charged over rigged tender
Two former top executives of an architectural consultancy have been charged with soliciting and accepting advantages in connection with a renovation project. Li Kin-kwok, 48, and Wong Yiu-keung, 41 - previously managing director and director of DTZ Debenham Tie Leung Project Services - faced one count of conspiracy to solicit an advantage and one of accepting an advantage, the Independent Commission Against Corruption said. They are alleged to have conspired with a DTZ design manager to solicit 2 per cent of a contract sum before a project tender. They will appear in Kowloon City Court today.
Holdup at fashion boutique
A robber armed with a pistol held up a fashion boutique and stole about HK$4,000 in Observatory Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, before fleeing. The man, in his 30s, acted as a customer, then produced the gun and pushed the female shopkeeper into a dressing room before grabbing money from a cabinet at around 9.45pm.
Passenger hits taxi driver
Police arrested a 28-year-old man for assaulting a taxi driver in a dispute over a fare at the junction of Woosung Street and Kansu Street in Yau Ma Tei. The man got into the taxi with a woman in Causeway Bay at about 1.30am. At the junction, the man paid HK$50 towards the fare and asked the driver to wait while he took the woman to her home. When he returned, he tried to flag down another cab but was stopped by the taxi driver and punched him.
