About 70 per cent of secondary school students prefer cohabitation to marriage and do not care whether their partners are virgins or not, a survey conducted by a Christian organisation has revealed.

The findings have aroused concern among parents and educators.

In ancient China, people adopted Confucian values so cohabitation was banned.

Social problems, such as abortion, high divorce rates and casual sex, were rare in those days. But, with the influx of western culture, modernisation and rapid technological advances, people today tend to ignore traditional values and end up paying a heavy price.

Teenagers live in a free society now and are less influenced by philosophies like Confucianism.

To make matters worse, they have easy access to pornographic material through magazines and the internet.
