Sat-Sun, 8pm, HK Coliseum
Danny Summer, known in some circles as the father of Hong Kong rock'n'roll, must be feeling the seven-year itch - he's making a return to the grand stage of the Hong Kong Coliseum this weekend for the first time since 2000.
Now living in Los Angeles, Summer has made only sporadic appearances in Hong Kong during the past decade. His last local gig was in 2004 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Tickets to this weekend's shows have been selling fast. His set list is expected to feature numbers from his recent series of albums under the OM title. Last year's OM3, on which Summer delivers renditions of Hong Kong classics such as the late Roman Tam Pak-sin's Under the Lion Rock, was named best album at a recent awards ceremony organised by the China Literature and Art Foundation.
Summer has been one of Hong Kong's favourite musicians since his 1979 debut, When I Was a Child. His dedication to his music, and the experience he has gained from live performances since he began singing in lounges and at nightclubs in 1968, has made him an in-demand musician.
His classics, including Empty Chair (1985), a tribute to his father, and Mama, I Didn't Do Anything Wrong (1989), which commemorates the students who died in the Tiananmen Square crackdown, are two of the most memorable Canto-pop songs.
