Further challenging the perception  that  Hong Kong is creatively bankrupt  in the musical department is the recent arrival of American independent label Metal Postcard Records.

Label owner Sean Hockings  uprooted Metal Postcard and sister imprint 12 Apostles from Brooklyn,  New York, and  laid roots  here. And  now he's on the hunt for local talent.

Metal Postcard has released material by artists from Australia,  Britain, the US and even Iraq,  running the  gamut from electro to experimental hip hop, acidic disco and gritty lo-fi acoustic numbers.

Get the Latin Juice

Juice magazine's club nights have become  solid fixtures on  the city's nightlife calendar and after instructing us on genres  such as dub, funk and post-punk through  so-called knowledge sessions, it's time to take a lesson in Latin music.

Juice Knowledge Sessions - Latin Flavas will bring a sultry end to summer at South Bay Beach on September 29.  If you don't know bossa nova from  your backside, Nat King Soul, Steve Bruce and the Ultra Lounge DJs will  be on hand to give the lowdown on all things Latino.

The event runs from 2pm to midnight and entry is free.

Campbell cancels

Country music fans' weekend is officially ruined: Glen Campbell's  Saturday night appearance at the Convention and Exhibition Centre  has been cancelled.

Promoter Wolfman Jack says scheduling problems led to the cancellation.  Jack is now offering refunds to all ticket holders.
