The Environmental Protection and Drainage Services departments were last night cleaning diesel fuel from the Ho Chung River in Sai Kung after it leaked from an oil tanker. The tanker's driver, 50, lost control at a roundabout at Hiram's Highway and Nam Pin Wai Road at about 11am. He told police he had a problem with the brakes. The tanker crashed onto its side, spilling diesel into a drain that links to the river. Workers were using absorbent booms to clear the spill, which was about 1km long.
