Disneyland protesters target conditions in Shenzhen
About 20 people protested outside Hong Kong Disneyland on the second anniversary of the theme park's opening yesterday against its treatment of workers at a mainland plant. Sacom, a Hong Kong-based group devoted to improving labour conditions, said it found workers in a Shenzhen plant worked nine to 15 hours a day, six to seven days a week and were paid 2.5 yuan an hour, 62.5 per cent of the legal minimum wage. Disney said it had been alerted to claims regarding the factory in June and violations had been found by its auditors. The priority was for the safety and well-being of staff employed at factories which manufactured Disney-branded merchandise for licensees, a spokeswoman said.
Interest rate forecast
The US Federal Reserve would probably cut the benchmark interest rate by as much as 100 basis points by the end of the year but Hong Kong might not follow suit, Standard Chartered Bank said in a report.
