Gone are the days when Mrs Chan could only be reached by a select few in political circles, and made comments to the media only through her occasional public appearances.
Since word went out that she would contest the Hong Kong Island by-election, Mrs Chan and her family have made an effort to answer most of the near-constant telephone calls made to their Mid-Levels home.
On the day of her announcement, Mrs Chan proved extremely media-friendly, taking telephone calls from journalists late in the evening, despite having gone through a busy meeting with allies on campaign strategy.
