Police say two boys and a girl arrested for robbing a goldsmith's shop at knifepoint were paid HK$120,000 to carry out the crime.
'We were shocked to learn the three knife-wielding robbers are just 14 and 15,' a police investigator said.
The robbers, who leapt over the counter of the Hung Hom shop on Sunday and stuffed bags with gold ornaments, got away with goods worth HK$1.1 million.
After a four-day investigation, police identified the three suspects - boys aged 14 and 15 and a girl, 14 - and detained them in Kowloon City on Thursday.
The alleged mastermind who recruited the trio was detained hours later in Ngau Tau Kok.
Officers arrested two men, 39 and 44, for handling stolen property.
'We believe about HK$400,000 worth of stolen gold ornaments had been sold to goldsmith's shops in the city,' said Chief Inspector Chung Chi-ming, of the Kowloon City district crime squad.
