A FILM producer found to have a cache of drugs in his home was yesterday jailed for 11 years. Mr Justice Bewley imposed the penalty on Chau Wai-kuen, 33, in the High Court, after Chau had pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking in dangerous drugs. Senior Crown Counsel Fanny Wong said police had raided a Lai Chi Kok flat in the early hours of February 20 last year. A search of the premises revealed a quantity of heroin mixture, containing a total of 397 grams of salts of esters of morphine. Police also found 5,363 grams of herbal cannabis hidden inside two sofas. Chau's counsel, Wong Man-kit, said Chau's older brother had died of lung disease in mid-1992. Chau himself suffers from tuberculosis. Chau had committed the offence in order to make some extra money to set aside as security for his family. Counsel asked the court to take into account the guilty plea.
