Thinking of trading in your current television for a new HD model? Instead of throwing your old set out with the rubbish, why not consider more eco-friendly ways to dispose of it? Corporate social responsibility campaigner and e-waste project leader for Greenpeace Jamie Choi said manufacturers should be pressurised to financially take back their end-of-life products. 'Greenpeace advocates individual producer responsibility,' Ms Choi said. 'That is, if manufacturers are financially required to take care of their end-of-life products this will give them a financial incentive to design less toxic and easier to dismantle products.' As the product designers, manufacturers knew the best ways to dismantle and discard these products properly, she said. An alternative method of disposal is to donate equipment still in working order to charitable organisations (see http://www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/environmentinhk/waste/prob_solutions/… ).
