The Hong Kong team did not let their supporters down at the 10th Asia Finswimming Championship held at Tsueng Kwan O pool earlier this month.

They won a bronze medal in the men's 50-metre bi-fins race and broke a Hong Kong record in the 4x100m relay.

The crowd cheered as Fu Wing grabbed the bronze in 22.36 seconds, just 0.25 seconds behind the silver medallist.

Fu said he was satisfied with his time. 'I used to be a member of the national swimming squad,' he said. 'I received good training and had a good foundation in swimming techniques. These helped me when I took up finswimming.'

Like other finswimmers, Fu said he was fascinated by the high speed of the sport.

The competition attracted more than 100 leading finswimmers from Hong Kong, China, Japan, South Korea, Chinese-Taipei, Australia, Vietnam and Indonesia. China were crowned champions, with 20 gold, 14 silver and five bronze medals in both men's and women's events.
