As with its many casinos, Macau's spa industry has also developed quickly in recent years, giving the booming territory some oases of tranquillity. As Macau upgrades itself, ordinary pampering will no longer satisfy people's expectations, and some new and somewhat crazy treatments are now on offer. Here we will introduce you to some of the craziest.
The newly opened Venetian Macau Resort Hotel's V Spa (Tel: +853 28828882) has new, surprising and tasty forms of massages. Tiramisu Delight (HK$1,200/one hour) wraps you in coffee, whipped cream, natural sugar and cinnamon. As its name suggests, Coconut Cocoon (HK$1,200/60 minutes) cocoons you in a thick layer of coconut cream and freshly grated carrot. The Caviar Facial (HKD$1,600/two hours) uses real caviar, which is believed to deoxidise your skin.
The Spa at Wynn Macau (Tel: +853 9863228) also offers you the caviar treatments with its Luxurious Lifting Caviar Facial (HK$1,200/one hour and 30 minutes) and Deluxe Caviar Therapy (HK$1,800/one hour and 45 minutes). The Luxurious Lifting Caviar Facial uses lotus flower with Futuresse caviar products. The Deluxe Caviar Therapy extends the treatment to your neck, hands and feet. The Spa's Time For Two (HKD$3,260/three hours) package includes a massage, facial and hydrotherapy treatment for each guest. You can choose either the signature Macanese Massage, which uses the palm pressure approach with The Spa's specially blended oils, or the Swedish Massage which is well known for its long soothing movements. For facials, if you have oily or combination skin, you may like to choose the Detoxifying Neem Facial and enjoy the restorative Ayurvedic benefits of neem to heal and balance the oiliness of your skin. Otherwise, go for the aromatic Sweet Rose Infusion Facial, which uses rose-scented essential oil and botanical extracts. The highlight of the treatment is the hydrotherapy, of which there are three to choose from. The Champagne Rose Bath fills the jacuzzi with rose petals from Holland and champagne concentrate. The Eden Garden Milk Bath blends exotic flowers and organic milk powder to make you smell and feel like a newborn baby. The Golden Fortune Bath has shimmering gold, pearl, wine and jasmine essential oil. Every treatment from the package can be ordered separately.
Another alternative is to treat yourself to the Heavenly Chocolate Experience (HK$630/one hour) at Spa Philosophy (Tel: +853 28728330). Starting with a chocolate fudge body polish, made of Godiva chocolate liqueur, sweet almond oil and ground walnuts, followed by the chocolate fondue wrap, a delicious concoction of clay and dark chocolate powder. Spa Philosophy is also famous for its Energetic Clay Body Spa (HKD$790/one hour and 30 minutes). You will first be massaged with a creamy algae-based product. Then clays of five different colours will be applied on specific parts of your body, with green clay energising, red clay calming, yellow clay detoxifying, white clay oxygenating and black clay hydrating.
If the above treatments are not crazy enough to satisfy, go to the newly renovated Mandarin Oriental Spa (+853 7934824) and be amazed by the Macanese Sangria Ritual (HK$1,440/two hours and 20 minutes). The ritual involves a sangria bath in the outdoor jacuzzi. It is believed to stimulate the circulatory system and moisturise the skin. Before the dip, there is a body scrub using fresh grapes and crushed rice with a mixture of grape seed oil, honey and rosemary essential oil. The journey ends with a grape seed oil massage, accompanied by a glass of specially made sangria. With the signature massage Oriental Harmony (HK$1,685/one hour and 50 minutes), you will have two therapists treating you. Mandarin Oriental Spa also offers Chinese acupressure, aroma stone treatment, and massages specially designed for new mothers and mothers-to-be.
