A tutor with a brain tumour who molested two students and had sex with one of them was jailed for 15 months yesterday. The District Court heard that Woo Ho-suen, 21, and his family had been depressed and anxious after learning of his condition in November but that his condition was now stable and he was receiving treatment. Sentencing him, Deputy Judge Merinda Chow Yin-chu said she needed to 'strike a balance between justice and mercy'. She noted that Woo had molested the victims against their will on several occasions and had unsafe sex with one of them, exposing her to the risk of becoming pregnant. The judge said she had to send a message to the public by imposing a deterrent sentence. Woo had earlier pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault and three counts of having unlawful sexual intercourse. Both girls were 14 when he met them. The offences occurred at a tutorial school and at Woo's North Point home between 2005 and this year. Woo met victim Y through victim X, who he came to know at the tutorial school where he used to work. He said victim Y became his girlfriend.
