Fancy a day away without the hassle of crossing the border? Sand-Bar Corner, a recreational club in the remote village of Pak A, Sai Kung, offers activities for a day trip that can be both an escape and an adventure. The club, owned by advertising executive and diving enthusiast Dan Wong Lup-for, is in a converted three-storey village house simply decorated with wooden furniture inspired by the natural surroundings. 'I always longed for a house by the sea where I could take a rest after diving. I think that's the wish of many watersports lovers,' says Wong, who set up the club three years ago. Those in search of a laidback break can enjoy tea and homemade cheesecake at the open-air cafe or indulge in breeze-kissed sunbathing while marvelling at the sea view from the second-floor balcony. Water babies can make use of the sports facilities, including a banana boat (HK$300/30 mins) and water motorbike (HK$200/20 mins), or join the beginners' wakeboarding course (HK$500 to HK$750 an hour). Since no public transport is available to the village, Wong suggests the club's barbecue package (HK$250-HK$360), which includes a boat ride from Sai Kung pier, is a worthwhile purchase. The venue can be booked for private parties or team-building activities. Sand-Bar Corner is at 71 Pak A Village, Leung Shuen Wan, Sai Kung. Advance booking is required.
