'Nail house' owner accepts payout of more than 10m yuan
The Hong Kong owner of a Shenzhen 'nail house' said yesterday that he had accepted more than 10 million yuan in compensation from the developer and would move out soon. Choi Chu-cheung, 57, signed an agreement with the developer on September 21 that cleared the way for his six-storey home in the central business district to be demolished. The developer plans to turn the site into an 88-storey financial centre. The agreement brings to an end a six-month court battle that began in April when Mr Choi and 389 other households in the area were asked to make way for redevelopment. The term 'nail house' refers to disputes where people hold out for compensation while houses all around are demolished.
