Trust and honesty will tell, candidate says
Anson Chan Fang On-sang has admitted there are clearly risks in her election debut, but says she is prepared to put her fate in voters' hands in December's Legislative Council by-election.
While she would not say why voters should support her, she is convinced they will vote for a candidate they trust, who they think is honest and who shares society's basic values.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Mrs Chan said running for elected office had never been her intention. But when the opportunity came with the death of DAB chairman Ma Lik, she decided to take it.
She said she had changed her mind partly because of the lesson learned from her initiative in setting up a core group of advisers on constitutional development last year.
'I have come to the conclusion that if you do not have a political platform, any comments you make on political reform can be ignored by the government.
