A mugger fell off the Wan Chai promenade into the harbour when his intended victim, a 62-year-old angler, fought back. The angler was about to leave the Hung Hing Road promenade at 12.15pm when the man punched him in the face and tried to snatch his gold necklace. A struggle broke out and the mugger fell into the water, a police spokesman said. He swam ashore and fled on a bicycle before police arrived. No property was stolen. Officers mounted a search but no one was arrested.
