When money beckons, MTR seems to forget it's for people
Hong Kong's railway system is truly a perk for the people, but the government company that operates it is not always so democratic.
As MTR Corp took reporters on a walk through its new Elements shopping mall at Kowloon Station and to peruse its designer shops, Lai See wondered if the firm was still for the people or just out to make a buck. He soon got his answer.
As MTRC's chief retail development manager, Betty Leong Sin-ling, beamed into a rolling television camera, a lunch delivery arrived. The delivery man, wearing shorts and slippers, was heading into the camera shot and threatened to sully the mall's high-class image.
MTR handlers quickly pushed the man towards an exit, which he understandably resisted. Perhaps they should have taken him to the Gucci shop for a makeover.

The initial public offering racket is dangerous ground for ordinary punters, and Citic Pacific as much as admitted this at a meeting where shareholders voted on the spin-off of Dah Chong Hong Holdings.
