Longing for colder climes? Whether you yearn for the slopes of Sapporo or the coffee houses of Vienna, all these cities have something in common - a crisp climate and (hopefully) plenty of snow.
The luxurious combination of high-end shopping and excellent ski slopes in Aspen has prompted a number of celebrities - Jack Nicholson, Goldie Hawn and Michael Douglas among them - to purchase homes  here. So be prepared for some celebrity sightings in this glitz-laden town.
Eat
Dine as the celebs do - or at least as Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn did - at D19 (305 South Mill Street, tel: 1 970 924 6019; www.d19aspen.com) - a contemporary European restaurant with an Italian twist. For some local flavour, try the homemade soups and burgers at Little Annie's Eat House
(517 East Hyman Avenue, tel: 1 970 925 1098) - it's an Aspen institution.
Stay
Hotel Jerome (330 East Main Street, tel: 1 970 920 1000; www.hoteljerome. rockresorts.com), one of the oldest hotels in Aspen, opened its doors in 1889 and has been indulging guests ever since. Mining-era features such as the Victorian woodwork and the original Jerome Bar have all been preserved to create a historic ambience with five-star service that's unsurpassed. To see and be seen, check  into The Sky Hotel (709 East Durant Avenue, tel: 1 970 925 6760; www.theskyhotel.com), a luxury pet-friendly boutique hotel with a stylish apres-ski bar  reputed to be the hippest in town.
Do
Not served by any lifts, the Highland Bowl, which can take up to an hour to climb, has a 45-degree pitch that is a must-do for serious skiers and boarders. But while Aspen is a haven for winter sports, it's also a shopper's paradise. Chic boutique Nuages (601 East Cooper Street, tel: 1 970 925 6969) stocks everything from Jil Sander to Dolce & Gabbana.
Go
February and March bring the best snow and the warmest winter weather.
