Guangdong is drafting a new regulation that will restrict or ban foreign employment in some professions, state media reports.
Under the new regulation, drafted by Guangdong's Labour and Social Security Department, the authorities would publish each year a list of the jobs where foreign employment is encouraged, restricted or banned, Xinhua reported.
Some professions already ban foreign employment, and in other areas where foreign employment is restricted, employers would have to pay an unspecified fee.
The report failed to specify which jobs would be restricted or banned. A national law allows only foreign professionals and staff who do jobs that cannot be filled from the domestic labour market to be employed.
In areas where foreign workers were encouraged, authorities would make it easier for them to get visas and work permits, the report said.
'Once labour authorities discover companies that employ foreigners without approval, or foreigners working illegally, they will be handed over to the police,' the report said.
