Huawei Technologies to build GSM base station on Everest
Huawei Technologies, the mainland's biggest telecommunications equipment manufacturer, will build an advanced GSM base station on Mount Everest as part of preparations for the Beijing Olympic Games next year.
China Mobile, the world's largest mobile communications network operator, last week selected Huawei to install the base station, which will provide network coverage at an altitude of 6,500 metres, for members of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay Team, who are expected to reach the mountain's summit in time for the Olympic Games. Motorola gets two supply contracts from Far EasTone
Far EasTone Telecom, one of Taiwan's largest mobile network operators, has awarded United States-based communications system provider Motorola two supply contracts for WiMAX network infrastructure as part of the operator's role in a government-backed wireless services initiative across the island. Financial terms were not given.
Phase 1 implementation is scheduled to commence this month and be completed by the end of the year. The second phase is expected to be completed early next year. Bien Perez
