Quality migrant scheme's age restrictions to be relaxed
Restrictions on people applying to migrate to Hong Kong under the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme will be relaxed, the chief executive said. By June, only 238 of an annual quota of 1,000 places were filled, accounting for 67 per cent of 356 eligible applications. Under the scheme, mainland and overseas applicants aged between 18 and 50 with a minimum five years' work experience are issued visas or permits if they pass an assessment of their abilities. A source said the age limits would be relaxed.
Free sport, leisure to mark Games
Hongkongers will enjoy free sports and recreational facilities managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department from July 1 to September 30 next year. The free admission to public swimming pools, water sports centres, tennis courts, squash courts and holiday camps would highlight the importance of the 2008 Olympic Games, the chief executive said.
Plan to boost conflict resolution
The government will help develop mediation services to reduce social costs and foster harmony. A cross-sector working group headed by the secretary for justice would map out plans to employ mediation more extensively and effectively, the chief executive said.
