Financial secretary to meet US, British central bank chiefs
Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah leaves Hong Kong on Sunday for a visit to Britain and the United States. Mr Tsang will meet finance officials, including the governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, and business leaders in London. Mr Tsang will leave London on Wednesday for New York, where he will officiate at a reception for the launch of the Hong Kong film series, 10 Years and Running: Recent Hong Kong Cinema, and speak at Columbia University. In Washington, he will attend meetings with members of the Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute. He is also expected to meet officials in charge of economic policy and the chairman of the US Federal Reserve Board, Ben Bernanke. He returns to Hong Kong on October 23.
Commerce head to attend Shenzhen technology meeting
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Frederick Ma Si-hang will co-chair the first meeting of the steering group on Shenzhen-Hong Kong co-operation in innovation and technology with the executive vice-mayor of the Shenzhen municipal government, Liu Yingli, in Shenzhen on Monday. Members of the steering group comprise senior government officials and representatives of technology support organisations of the two cities. Mr Ma will also visit the Hong Kong pavilion and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Circle pavilion of the China Hi-Tech Fair 2007 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Job vacancies surge 20pc
Job vacancies were up more than 20 per cent year on year in the third quarter, recruitment advertising publication Recruit said. The publication registered 38,876 vacancies in the quarter, compared with 32,207 in the same period a year ago. Vacancies were also up 1.6 per cent on the second quarter of this year, according to the publication. The procurement, marketing and executive sectors had the most vacancies.
