Schoolgirls fail to see paid 'dating' as prostitution: group
A schoolgirl earned more than HK$20,000 in six months by engaging in compensated dating, a murky form of prostitution arranged between older men and teenage girls seeking extra pocket money, a youth group has found.
The girl, now 15, was among six girls who had sought counselling services from the Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service's Yau Tsim Mong Integrated Centre for Youth Development. The girl's name was not revealed.
The girls had engaged in compensated dating between the middle of last year and early this year. They looked for patrons by placing advertisements on internet websites or forums, saying they were offering intimate services for men and how much they would charge.
Their services ranged from dates and holding hands to providing sex. There were also guidelines for girls on how they could earn money by compensated dating.
In return, the girls received an amount between HK$1,000 and HK$1,700 for each job.
The centre said all six girls' family situations were unstable. Either they were raised in broken families or their parents often argued openly.
