IN stride with the increasingly complex telecommunication needs of large multinational companies, British Telecom (BT) is aiming to provide a complete package of end-to-end managed services for international corporate communications, according to Alfred Mockett, managing director of Business Communications BT. Speaking at an American Chamber of Commerce luncheon, he said: ''Already in the telecoms sector, we are seeing increased demand for global suppliers who can offer one-stop shopping.'' By forming strategic alliances, BT hopes to move away from the traditional inter-carrier agreement, whereby International Direct Dialling (IDD) calls are delivered via national carriers at each end, and possibly a third-party cable or satellite provider in the middle. These types of agreement, usually between national carriers, have been the norm for the past 50 years. By moving away from third-party delivery, BT hopes to offer a managed end-to-end service. Mr Mockett said: ''In today's increasingly competitive environment, the most successful telecommunications company will be the one prepared to offer guaranteed service levels, even across those parts of the network over which it has no direct control. ''From BT's point of view, the best way in which we can achieve this objective is by decreasing reliance on third-party delivery and offering end-to-end managed services, wherever possible across our own network.''
