Sigmund Elisabeth, a cosmetologist and the brains behind the idea for an organic skin care range that supported the skin's powers of regeneration, approached Rudolf Hauschka, the founder of Wala Medicines which makes products from medicinal plants and natural substances, 45 years ago. Five years later, the pair launched the first basic range of skin care products under the Dr. Hauschka name which, at the time, were mixed by hand. This year the brand celebrates its 40th anniversary. The 120-strong product line is made from vegetable oils and plant essences extracted from the botanical ingredients grown by organic and biodynamical methods in the company's gardens. And the line is certified as organic by the independent German BDIH association, Germany's guiding body for natural cosmetics. The Rose Day cream was one of the brand's earliest products and it is one of its best-sellers with benefits said to include the regulation of the oil-moisture balance of the skin. To celebrate its 40th birthday, the brand has created a commemorative edition of three of its longstanding products - Rose Day cream, cleansing cream and facial toner. The set is available only this year and costs HK$560.
