Ten Feet High Andrea Corr (CD)

While other members of Irish pop group The Corrs are busy raising their families, the lead singer and youngest sibling Andrea Corr has released her debut solo attempt, Ten Feet High. Having lured big names Nellee Hooper and U2's Bono as producers, Corr aims to prove herself by penning all songs (except Take Me I'm Yours) and even accompanying herself on the piano.

The album kicks off with the experimental punk track Hello Boys. Her efforts, however, fail to impress. The heavy electronic music overshadows Corr's rather nondescript vocals. It's not until the third song, Shame On You, an anti-war number, that the album improves.

Title track Ten Feet High is another highlight - the orchestral arrangement is powerful and haunting. This is followed by another hit, Champagne From a Straw, a catchy and lyrically clever look at celebrity life.

Corr saves the best till last. Closing track Ideal World, a simple song with bittersweet lyrics about the pursuit of a perfect life, will strike a chord with idealistic listeners. The album lacks excitement the first time you hear it. But there are enough tracks to get stuck in your head and warrant a second listen.
