The Housing Authority is to spend HK$20 million upgrading the television signal reception system on all public housing estates in preparation for digital broadcasts, the first phase of which begins by the end of the year. More than 50 per cent of the city's population - those living in Kowloon, north Hong Kong Island, part of Sha Tin and the east of Lantau Island - will be able to watch digital programmes when the two domestic free broadcasters, ATV and TVB, launch the first phase of the service.
