MICROSOFT has announced version 2.0 of its Windows Sound System audio software that integrates with any Windows-based application.

  For the first time, the Windows Sound System is available in two versions. One includes the software and a microphone and the other includes a Windows Sound System audio board and headphones.

   The software version, which supports almost all audio boards, will include drivers for Creative labs, Media Vision, Microsoft and Microsoft-compatible audio boards.

   The new version is also compatible with application hardware supporting Sound Blaster.

 It also features Microsoft's custom-designed directional microphone that enables accurate voice recognition in a variety of settings.

  The Sound System 2.0 includes integrated audio software that allows users to record a voice annotation and proof selected words and numbers without using the keyboard.

   The system also features an accurate voice recognition application, Voice Pilot.

 The Windows Sound System version 2.0 should be available through Microsoft resellers now.

 The software version, which includes software, a microphone, a microphone adapter, and a software users' guide, is available for $632.

  It also needs an audio board. The package includes software, a microphone, headphones, a 16-bit stereo audio board, and users' guides.
