How did it begin?

Dan Single, Gareth Moody and George Gorrow founded Australian streetwear label Ksubi in 2000. Gorrow and Single (right) met in Los Angeles in the 1990s, where they were musicians. On their return to Australia they joined forces with Moody and started designing and creating their own wardrobes while performing in a band. The original concept behind the label was to create a fusion of fashion, music and art.

Their first collection in 2000 featured distressed denim that would become their signature. They experimented on fabrics in their backyard, using tools such as sandpaper.

The brand debuted at the Mercedes Australian Fashion Week in 2001. Later that year, they opened a fashion design studio, known as the Skull Club.

For their second show, they released 250 live rats onto the catwalk at their first ready-to-wear collection. They have garnered a reputation for unusual and subversive shows, including models walking the plank into Sydney harbour.

In 2004, they launched their first sunglasses range. The following year, they commemorated their fifth anniversary with a Ksubi book.
