Spotlight falls on water pollution and energy wastage as the caped crusader comes to town

Hong Kong made world headlines last week when members of the production team told the Sunday Morning Post a scene where Batman jumps into the harbour had to be canned after scary bugs were found in a water sample.

At a press conference, director Christopher Nolan said he was responsible for removing the scene.

'That was my decision, nothing to do with pollution,' the British director said.

'It was simply a script decision. Once you see the finished film, you will understand why. As far as the pollution question goes, I honestly have no problem dumping movie stars in it.'

Two sources said the stunt was eliminated because putting someone in the water could end up with either star Christian Bale or a stuntman being sent to hospital.

Batman was supposed to jump out the back of a Hercules C130 and into Victoria Harbour before climbing up some bamboo and on to the pier.
