WWF Hong Kong is one of the city's leading organisations in educating people about the importance of environmental protection and wildlife conservation.

It has several conservation priorities, which include preventing the trade in endangered plant and animal species and their by-products, lobbying with the government for developing and implementing conservation policies and working with local divers to protect marine life and its habitat.

Besides the WWF, the Hong Kong government and Ocean Park also promote conservation in Hong Kong and Asia.

'The International Studbooks of World Association of Zoos and Aquariums keep information on almost every endangered animal species kept in zoos all over the world, including their sex, age and blood lines,' said Benjamin Hung Tak-chuen, senior leisure manager for special gardening at the Leisure & Cultural Services Department.

'Based on the information, the keepers can advise individual zoos on any animal exchange so that a proper breeding pair can be matched.'
