He might have made 10 birdies in the final round to almost win the British Open at Carnoustie earlier this year, but Andres Romero failed to mount any serious challenge at Fanling as he slumped to a second round of 76 to miss the cut by a staggering 12 shots. The 26-year-old Argentinian, who finished a career-high seventh on the 2007 European Tour Order of Merit, had been expected to feature prominently on the leaderboard this week, but blamed a hectic playing schedule for his woeful performance. 'It's been a good year, but a very long year and I'm very tired,' said Romero, who will represent his country at next week's World Cup in Shenzhen. 'I like the course, but I just played really badly. I'm disappointed, so I plan to spend the next few days practising and resting in preparation for the World Cup.'
