Fourteen Baptist University students suffered skin and eye complaints after exposure to light from a UV lamp while conducting an experiment. The university is reviewing safety guidelines after the incident late last month. The third-year students, who are studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine, have since recovered. The university's Environmental Health Safety Committee has inspected all on-campus laboratories with similar facilities. Professor Liu Liang, dean of the School of Chinese Medicine, said this week the school had reimbursed students' medical expenses. A memo has been issued emphasising laboratory rules and guidelines.
