Where is it? Firmly attached to the towering cliffs that overlook Sardinia's beautiful Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) is the whitewashed Hotel Romazzino. A standalone resort hotel, it is a 10-minute drive from the shops and harbour of Porto Cervo.
Luxurious or basic? The 78 guest rooms come with vast and comfortable beds. Designer lighting and plasma-screen televisions make lounging around an entirely acceptable way to spend your day. The covered balconies (right), with views of the green-blue sea, are gorgeous. Freebies include a bag of hand-made marzipan (a local speciality), a beauty counter's worth of toiletries and soft slippers.
Who should visit? Honeymooners and anyone looking to bring some romance into their lives. All will be delighted by the wafting herbal scents - such as romazzino ('rosemary' in Sardinian dialect) - the secluded strip of beach and the peaceful nature of this establishment.
The hotel soothes those tired of modern fashions with the old-school sounds of Frank Sinatra and the taste of classic cocktails in the lobby. Celebrities Courtney Cox, Kate Hathaway and a clutch of Formula One drivers have stayed here recently.
What's on the menu? Breakfasts are lavish affairs, with creamy scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, sugary croissants and a different flavour of tea for every day of the week. Even better is dinner, which is crafted by chefs who have updated Italian cuisine without stripping it of its quality. Try the strawberry risotto - the fruit livens up the rice almost as much as the champagne liberally splashed on it. And on Italy's second-largest island the fish are not to be missed, with the swordfish-roll wrapped in puff pastry an elegant choice.
What else is there to do? Assuming you haven't arrived on your own yacht, you can hire a boat to take you to Maddalena Island. Other sea-related pastimes include kite-surfing, snorkelling and diving. You may even catch a glimpse of dolphins.
