Local independent movie B420, filmed in Macau by a Hong Kong director, has won its second international film award since it was released two years ago.
Scripted, edited and directed by Mathew Tang Hon-keung, who graduated from City University's School of Creative Media in 2004, the movie was named best film at this year's Vienna Youth International Film Festival. It prevailed over entries from 12 countries and regions.
It was the second award for B420 since the movie was released commercially in 2005, when it won the Grand Prix at the 19th Fukuoka Film Festival. The movie was also an official selection at the 52nd Sydney Film Festival and the 2005 Munich Film Festival, and the opening film at the 2005 Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.
B420, starring Miki Yeung Oi-kan, Sam Lee Chan-sam and Ben Hung Jin-Ming, charts three teenagers' path to adulthood and their perceptions of life, love and death.
It evolved from Tang's university project. Previously, he has said the title came before the plot or casting for the film.
When the movie was released, Tang said he considered awards and a good take at the box office as equally important.
