CHINA'S Wang Junxia, the best female distance runner on the planet, said she ''feels like a deer'' when she's smashing records on the track.
Wang, who smashed world records last year at 3,000 metres (8:06.11 from 8:22.62) and 10,000 metres (29:31.78 from 30:13.74), and won the World Cup marathon in 2:28:16, is in New York to receive the Jesse Owens International Trophy.
She told reporters she was ''very angry'' that members of the international track community accused her of using performance-enhancing drugs. ''The truth is that I made it by myself,'' Wang said.
But for many other questions Wang hesitated or deferred to her coach, Ma Junren.
Wang looked down and shook her head when asked if she dates, and said Ma ''did the right thing'' in waiting several weeks until the end of the season to inform her of her brother's death.
While Wang seemed reticent to talk, her coach showed no reluctance.
