Mobile operators focus on mobile TV, which uses their network to distribute TV programmes. But the technology is not yet advanced in Hong Kong and you typically have to pay for the content.

Electronics manufacturer, AV Link USA, is jumping the gun with TV handsets.

Instead of installing sophisticated software on the handset and working with operators to deliver content, AV Link USA's 7827TVBT and 7839TVBT make the concept a lot easier by simply integrating an analogue, free-to-air TV into the units.

With that you'll be able to watch any free-to-air channel broadcast, such as TVB and ATV in Hong Kong.

The good news is that both models are equipped with a large 3-inch QVGA display, which won't give you the cinematic experience, but should be enough to make most programmes enjoyable without making you squint.

Another neat trick from AV Link USA is dual SIM cards, which are popular among frequent travellers to China. This allows you to have two accounts - one for Hong Kong and one for China - and eliminates high roaming fees and the hassle of swapping SIMs whenever you cross the border.
