Former Macau government minister Ao Man-long fast-tracked the completion check on StarWorld so Galaxy Entertainment's flagship casino hotel could open in October last year despite problems with the project, Macau's top court heard yesterday.

Mak Chi-hong, senior investigator for the Commission Against Corruption, testified against Ao on the 10th day of Macau's biggest graft trial.

Joaquim Farinha Lourenco, a department head with the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau, found 'problems related to land sinking' with the StarWorld Hotel, which was built on reclaimed land, and submitted a written report to his superiors on September 29 last year. But the project soon passed the government's completion check and the casino hotel opened on October 19.

The court was told that investigators found a note in Ao's office with a line saying: 'Lourenco indicates StarWorld has difficulty passing completion check. Please help.'
