A vice-chairman of Guangxi government has been put under shuanggui (investigation), the Hong Kong-based Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy reported yesterday.
Sun Yu, who was in charge of Guangxi's agricultural development, has been detained by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection - the party's top anti-corruption body, the centre said.
It said that Mr Sun was detained last Wednesday. Quoting sources, the centre alleged that he was being investigated for corruption and keeping mistresses.
Shuanggui does not imply indictment but officials are required to co-operate with investigators and provide required information within a designated time.
A Guangxi autonomous regional government duty officer said last night he could not confirm the report but said Sun had not been seen for a few days.
'There has been something unusual about Mr Sun's reporting to work for a period of time,' said the officer, who gave his name as Liao. 'I notice that he has not taken part in official activities for a few days.' Information about Mr Sun was still included on the provincial government's official website but the latest entry about him dated back to early this month when he attended a press conference.
