Spotlight on veteran Hui
Promoters have denied that veteran Canto-pop singer Sam Hui Koon-kit is struggling to sell tickets for his coming concerts at the Hong Kong Stadium.
This month's gig will be divided into eight sections and Hui, 59, will perform both his English and Cantonese songs. An organiser denied rumours that interest in the concert was low, saying 'over 80 per cent of the tickets have been sold'.
Hui has been promoting the gig on TV and at public appearances.
Guangzhou-born Hui (left) moved to Hong Kong with his family when he was four. His parents were musicians: his father was a Chinese instrumentalist and his mother was a Cantonese opera singer. Although Hui is a big fan of Cantonese opera, he was also influenced by western music during the 1960s, including Elvis Presley and the Beatles, giving his music a unique style.
Hui retired in 1992 but resumed performing in 2004.
