Where? In Manhattan's Lower East Side, an edgy New York neighbourhood home to artists, musicians and fashionistas. The quiet area is lined with the discreet storefronts of vintage boutiques and cafes.

Who? The boutique was opened last year by former make-up artist Ashley Hanosh. Despite having no retail experience, Hanosh was flooded with calls from fashion magazines even before the store opened, thanks to her selection of cool threads from designers in the city.

Fashion finds: look for labels for women such as Nomia, Mociun, Samantha Pleet and Judi Rosen as well as more recognisable names such as Eventide, Tsumori Chisato, Hoss, Alice McCall, Raasta, Madison Marcus, Antipodium, Anna Sui, Thread Social, James Coviello and Fremont. There is a small selection of jewellery from labels such as Iosselliani and Sabrina Dehoff as well as a range of Lulu Organics beauty products.

The vibe: the store has a distinctly feminine feel, with exposed brick walls lined with dark wood shelving units that display the pretty merchandise. Girly touches come in the form of potted flowers, antique books and bric-a-brac strewn around the store.

The crowd: downtown girls with a flair for fashion.
