Outstanding Japanese miler Kongo Rikishio looks deceptively innocent and on his best behaviour in the mornings at Sha Tin, but a closer inspection of his racing gear tells a different story.

Kongo Rikishio wears a muzzle, to stop him biting.

Like many five-year-old stallions, Kongo Rikishio enjoys taking a bite of anything that strikes his fancy and trainer Kenji Yamauchi has obviously had enough.

Every morning this week, Kongo Rishikio has sported blinkers and a muzzle. So the next time those flashing teeth threaten some passer-by, they will have a safety net.

After riding the Yasuda Kinen runner-up in a steady canter this morning, work rider Yoichi Tabara said: 'This is his first time to travel abroad - he is in good form and very settled.'
