Dining options abound from yuletide favourites to lavish seven-course extravaganzas
The Backyard

White Christmas might be a cliche, but for many it never gets tired. Back by popular demand, The Backyard again brings in the snow, with a hint of pink thrown in for good measure. The theme is winter barbecue (HK$358-HK$528 per adult, HK$218-HK$328 per child) amidst fairytale Alpine surrounds, with a giant snowman and smiling angels to cheer you up for the festive season. The treats on offer include Gluhwein, chocolate fondue and eggnog as well as fresh seafood and a choice selection of fine wines.
The Boathouse

If tranquillity is what you have in mind for Christmas, The Boathouse serves seafood at Stanley Bay, and you can enjoy it on the balcony or rooftop garden    at this nautical-themed eatery. An a la carte is available for Christmas Eve  dinner, with minimum spending  of HK$350 per person. A five-course lunch is served the next day for HK$275.
Cafe de Paris

If you can't  make it to Paris for Christmas, at least get yourself to Cafe de Paris (above)  with its casual bistro elegance and warm and cosy atmosphere. Perfectly-grilled tenderloin steaks, ocean-fresh steamed mussels and tasty homemade fries are on the menu. A four-course Christmas Eve dinner is served for HK$488. At the Stanley branch (2/F, 90 Stanley Main Street, Stanley, 2813 4822), the price is HK$340, while in Discovery Bay (G01B, Water Margin, Discovery Bay, Lantau, 2987 8203) it's HK$488 with a glass of mulled wine.

Celebrate Christmas on The Peak this year, as Cafe Deco (below) serves up a special menu for Christmas Day and Christmas Eve. Available for both lunch and dinner at HK$528 per person, the menu begins with a starter of spicy salmon rolls prepared in three different ways. The main course is a choice of either roast goose or roast turkey, and the warm sticky date pudding with bourbon and vanilla ice cream is one of the desserts available for diners with a sweet tooth.

If you've always dreamed of dining in a romantic medieval setting, look no further than 798 unit & co's Gastropub Unit (above), which is offering a Christmas Feast menu on December 24 for HK$550 per person. Modelled after the traditional  feasts in medieval castles,  heaped plates of food line the restaurant's long table down the middle, amidst clusters of cinnamon and vanilla scented candles. Waiters also come by with wine and sangria, as well as trays of whole roasts, side dishes and garnishes.

You can begin your dinner with the baby lobster with cheese au gratin, then the porcini mushrooms cream garnish with fillet of sole and extra virgin olive oil. Fill up with the seafood-filled ravioli in prawn ragout sauce, and indulge your luxurious cravings with the fillet of sea bass with Italian caviar and champagne sauce. This decadent menu is priced at HK$650, and guests who make a reservation by December 12 will receive a complimentary glass of champagne.

Christmas Eve dinner will be a five-course extravaganza at HK$988, starting with wood-smoked Balik salmon, with an organic egg and caviar pancake, followed by pheasant and foie gras pastry and hand-crafted tagliatelle with Maine lobster in crab sauce. Main course options include traditional slow-cooked Christmas turkey and trimmings, and charcoal-grilled super prime rib-eye  beef. The Christmas dessert surprise (above), coffee or tea,  panettone and cookies wrap things up. On Christmas Day, the lunchtime buffet is on the table at HK$468 for adults and HK$288 for children.
Lotus Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge

On Christmas Eve, enjoy a special three-course celebration dinner  (HK$750) with a glass of Bellini on arrival and an Egg Martini after the meal, complete with table gifts and a lucky draw.

Choose from various main courses including the classic USDA prime rib-eye steak, single-cut filet mignon with a bearnaise sauce, jumbo lump crab cakes with mustard mayonnaise sauce, and broiled salmon fillet, Chicken Christopher, or Colossal Shrimp Alexander - all cooked in beurre blanc sauce. A special dinner menu priced at HK$348 is created for Christmas Eve, and highlights include the pan-fried crisp Chilean sea bass, as well as the traditional Christmas pudding.

Pink Santa Claus and Santarina will be giving out pink Christmas cookies, if that tickles your fancy. And let Santa know your Christmas wish by dropping a letter in Santa's mailbox during December. By the time it supposedly reaches the North Pole you may end up winning some great prizes. Santa himself will announce the three lucky winners on Christmas Day at 8pm.

The seven-course menu features a mixed seafood appetiser and homemade tagliatelle with Italian porcini mushroom, and is priced at HK$500. The 10-course feast comes at HK$600, and serves up an irresistible medley of dishes, from the parma Prosciutto Riserva ham with Italian figs, to the smoked duck breast served with hot crostini and butter.

The dinner comes at HK$580 per person and offers a variety of festive dishes such as foie gras and dried fruit terrine with lacrima di more jelly and brioche bread, and  a ravioli of the traditional pig's trotter zampone with pumpkin and black truffle cream.

At Opia (above), executive chef Dane Clouston has created three menus combining the best winter ingredients with prime meats and seafood for the end of year celebrations. The Christmas menu will be served on December 24 and 25 at HK$928 per person, or HK$788 for early bird bookings. The feast includes a welcoming seasonal cocktail created by mixologist Mark Ward, followed by a Japanese-style oyster shooter. There are also appetisers such as demi-tasse of white bean soup and peppered duck ravioli; foie gras parfait with bacon relish, coddled quail's egg and shaved truffle, or poached Maine lobster and iceberg salad with saffron mayonnaise. A main course of either Black Angus sirloin with sauteed Numeko mushrooms, crispy-skin sea bass with prawn-stuffed zucchini flowers, or pot-roasted turkey and wild turkey pie with green pea cassoulet grace the table. And homemade Christmas pudding with brandy sauce and vanilla ice cream or strawberry trifle with Pedro Ximenez jelly, vanilla sponge cream custard and pistachio nuts praline for dessert.

Fashionable contemporary Japanese restaurant Zuma, usually the place where beautiful people go, is serving family-style festive season dinners throughout December for HK$890. The 15-course feast is highlighted by teriyaki-marinated duck breast, striped jack sashimi, pork and chicken dumplings, premium seafood sashimi, wagyu beef short-ribs, black cod, lamb chops, Hokkaido scallops and a dessert platter. Set dinner for HK$1,280 will be dished up on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Throughout the festive season, Zuma's 6th floor private room is available for booking by private parties for a minimum spending of HK$20,000-HK$25,000, except at New Year's Eve when a special cocktail menu is on offer.
Stormies Crabshack

Stormies Crabshack (above) has fresh ocean catches and steaks for celebration. Crow's Nest, the exclusive den above the restaurant, provides the place to relax and to throw an exclusive party. Four-course set dinners are served for HK$358 on Christmas Eve and HK$298 the next day. For HK$800 per person, an open bar is included, serving standard drinks, house wines, bottled and draught beers, and Moet & Chandon until midnight. The newest location of Stormies (R005, 3/F, Elements, Kowloon MTR Station, 2196 8098) dishes up its first Christmas Eve dinner as three courses with a glass of port for HK$350.



Festive fare
