Tourist claims she was strip-searched by police
A 43-year-old mainland female tourist has claimed she was strip-searched by police after being arrested on suspicion of working as a prostitute in Yau Ma Tei. According to a report in Southern Metropolis Daily newspaper yesterday, Wu Aifang said she visited Hong Kong with a tour group on December 4 and was arrested on Nathan Road the following day. She claimed she had been strip-searched four times before being taken back to Shenzhen on December 6. She was photographed showing her passport with a stamp saying she was banned from entering Hong Kong for two years. Police and Immigration Department spokesmen refused to comment.
Three arrested over elections
Three siblings were arrested and charged by the ICAC for alleged offences in the Village Representative Election on January 6. Ken Lam Kam-kwan, 37, Lam Yuet-heung, 40, and Lam Yuet-kuen, 35, allegedly voted despite knowing they were not entitled to do so. Each faces one count of corrupt conduct and will appear in Fanling Magistracy tomorrow.
Call to set gas emission targets
The Hong Kong People's Council for Sustainable Development has urged the government to commit to greenhouse gas emission targets being discussed at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali. Council chairman Albert Lai Kwong-tak, who is at the conference, said Hong Kong, despite its city status, should take up the responsibility as a developed country.
